To be honestly, traditional can be a bit boring to some. But we kid you not, these traditional beers have so much character and are not easy to handle from time to time. To give you a better inside of what the traditional beers are that locals in Belgium drink. We summed up some of the most famous Belgian brews.

Brown ale with a fruity aroma, full bodied and a creamy white foam head. This abbey ale is one of Belgium's most famous and very popular with the locals. Imagine walking through the streets of Brussels on a rainy autumn afternoon. To bump into a small jazz bar where they are playing your favorite song from Jacques Brel. Pour your glass gently and imagine.

Duvel

Duvel

A classic golden strong with the icon 33cl glass. Duvel means devil in Flemish and that's exactly what this beer is, if you don't know his temper. It's very smooth to drink but with an alcohol volume of 8.5%, it can trick you like the devil.

Westmalle Tripel

Did you know that the best beer in the world -Westvleteren- uses the yeast of Westmalle? This Trappist ale tripel is well balanced with a hoppy citric aroma and a bitter aftertaste. With a Alcohol volume of 9.5% it is advised to drink it slowly. The abbey were the trappist monks live is 20km outside of Flanders' capital Antwerp. If you visit the abbey you can try the trip-trap, which is Westmalle's very own beer cocktail. The ingredients are easy: you fill your glass for 50% with the fruity Westmalle tripel from a bottle and 50% with the brown red mouty Westmalle Dubbel from the tap. What you get is a very unique flavor palette.

Rodenbach Grand Cru

Rodenbach Grand Cru

This Flemish red is refreshing with a complex detail of fruity wines. Rodenbach Grand Cru is a special kind of ale because it's mixed fermented. This brew contains 67% of young beer and 33% of 24 months matured beer held inside foeders (oak barrels). The brewery is located in Roeselare, Flanders. Some local people hire the foeder room to hold their wedding ceremonies because of its unique character.

Delirium Tremens

Delirium Tremens

A strong blond beer with top fermentation. The bottles are very recognisable because of the pink elephant logo and the glasses because of the trunk shaped stem. Also the name is rather unusual; Delirium Tremens means a severe form of alcohol withdrawal, it involves sudden mental and nervous system changes. The specific taste of Delirium Tremens comes from the use of three different kind of yeast. With an alcohol volume of 8.5% it is needless to say you have to drink this one with patience, otherwise you'll see the pink elephant in your living room.
